The organisation takes a group of unusual and exotic pets on the road so children can meet different animals, including a large tarantula, and an even larger giant millipede, at a young age and learn more about them and their environments.

It was a fourth visit to West Lynn Primary School where pupils from Walpole Cross Keys also took part before the ZooLab moved onto Clenchwarton Primary School for a similar session with the Year 1 group. 

“The children loved all of the animals, but their favourite was the corn snake. Many of them have never had the opportunity to see or hold a snake before, so they were very excited,” said Executive Deputy Headteacher Nicki Maddison.

Alongside the snake and spider (called Bella) was a tree frog, leopard gecko and giant African millipede all in class for the special session.

The visit coincided with a topic of looking at animals and their needs, and the ZooLab team explained the diet of the animals, and how to care for them. There was also the chance to learn about habitat.

“The staff loved the tree frog. ZooLab placed it on the wall in the hall and we all watched as it stuck to the wall while it travelled. Both the children and staff were fascinated, and fully engaged,” said Mrs Maddison.

“The company was extremely professional and appropriate for the age group. The facts were interesting and safety was a priority. All the children felt happy and safe during the session,” she added.
